First time in Europe
The Challengers and the Defender have split the six matches sailed since 1983 with the Swiss Alinghi the latest Challenger to triumph in 2003 in New Zealand. Alinghi's win brings the America's Cup to Europe for the first time, and with no sea in Switzerland, the spanish city of Valencia was selected as the host city, in part due to its reliable weather conditions.
A new competition System
The 32nd America's Cup in Europe is an opportunity to update the competition. For the first time, a series of 13 regattas, the Louis Vuitton Acts, are sailed over four years, prior to the climax of 2007. Before the Louis Vuitton Cup and the final America's Cup Match takes place in Valencia, the show went on the road to Marseille, Malmö-Skäne and Trapani. All teams compete in the Louis Vuitton Acts, with results counting towards bonus points for the Louis Vuitton Cup.
